Location: UK home based, with the requirement to attend meetings in London. All travel is fully expensed.

ABHI supports the HealthTech community to save and enhance lives. Members, including both multinationals and small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs), supply products from syringes and wound dressings to surgical robots, diagnostics and digitally enhanced technologies. The Role
An exciting opportunity exists for an undergraduate student who has just completed their second year at university, to join us on a 1-year fixed term contract as a Government Affairs Researcher. The role is a position which provides a learning opportunity for someone looking to develop a career in research and/or government affairs with an interest in politics.
Under our training and mentorship you will develop transferable skills in this specific area of government affairs. You will work with the Director of Government Affairs to help ABHI deliver a series of research activities to support ABHI’s advocacy activities and deliver our policy priorities. Tasks include writing and editing content and briefings, maintaining a database, supporting on events and helping to market the work of the ABHI.
Candidates must have a keen interest in politics as they will be expected to monitor all relevant political intelligence for its impact on the HealthTech industry, and support the Government Affairs Director to provide insight on this intelligence to the ABHI Leadership team.

The Core Accountabilities
Working with our small government affairs team, the core accountabilities of this role include;
Government Affairs
- Deliver a series of research activities (including surveys, analysis, and case studies) that will support the delivery of ABHI’s advocacy activity.
- Support the delivery of ABHI’s policy priorities through external affairs activity which help to maximise the profile and reputation of ABHI and influence its audiences.
- Support advocacy activity that aims to increase the representation and profile of ABHI and the HealthTech industry in Westminster and across the devolved nations.
- Support in maintaining an up-to-date database of ABHI’s external stakeholders.
Communications
- Support the Director of Communications in marketing the work of the Association.
- Help to support the writing, editing, proof-read and distribution of content.
- Provide on the day support with the delivery of ABHI’s events calendar.
General
- Support ABHI’s leadership team through facilitating meetings and delivering briefings where relevant.
- Actively work to attract and retain members, continuing to assess where ABHI can improve its engagement mechanisms.
The Candidate
Skills and Experience
- Candidates must have completed their second year at university, ideally in a Science or Social Science Discipline or in Politics, or Politics and International Relations.
- Candidates must have a keen interest in Politics. An understanding of UK parliamentary processes is preferred.
- Candidates must be IT literate (competent in MS Office applications, especially in the use of Excel and have an ability to analyse and interpret data).
- Good level of written English and must have good writing skills.
- Strong organisational and time management skills with an ability to prioritise workload.
- Confidence dealing with all staff at all levels and strong written and verbal communication skills.
Person Specification
We are ideally looking for someone who can demonstrate good organisational skills and the ability to work on and complete tasks on time and to a high standard. You must be able to analyse data and undertake research and clearly communicate findings both orally and in the written form. You will have an inquisitive and analytical mindset and enjoy analysing data and undertaking research.
You will have good writing skills and a desire to play a positive part in the wider team. You will have an interest in politics and ideally in healthcare and above all you must have a desire to want to learn and develop.
Place of work
As this role is UK home based it will be essential that you have the ability and motivation to work from home with reduced supervision, but be part of the team. There will be the requirement to attend team meetings, staff meetings, training and events at our London office or at other London locations. Candidates must therefore be based in the UK and have a reliable home broadband speed and be able to occasionally travel to London – all travel can be expensed. All equipment will be provided.
