Peter Ellingworth

Chief Executive

Biography

Peter is Chief Executive of the Association of British HealthTech Industries (ABHI), the UK’s leading HealthTech Trade Association, with 400 members operating across medical devices, diagnostics and digital health. Representing the needs of industry at a senior national level with government and the NHS, ABHI ensures businesses are able to grow and provide patients with effective technologies.

Peter sits on the Secretary of State led Life Sciences Council, the sector specific Health Technology Partnership which supports it, and a number of the expert groups that feed into the delivery of the Life Sciences Vision. He is on the Advisory Group and a workstream Chair for the Innovation System Programme that Roland Sinker is overseeing on behalf of NHS England.

A Board member of the Office for Strategic Coordination of Health Research (OSCAR), the Accelerated Access Collaborative and Health Innovation Oxford & Thames Valley, Peter previously chaired the Health Economy work stream of the London Health Commission that was established by the Mayor of London and Lord Ara Darzi. He also advises the Department of Health and Social Care's MedTech Strategy Programme Board.

An experienced supporter of global trade, he is a former advisor to the Department for Business and Trade's Healthcare UK programme and Free Trade Agreement work, and he has overseen the growth of ABHI’s US Accelerator since its 2017 inception. Peter has helped develop strong bilateral relationships with key global Trade Associations. This includes the Global Medical Technology Alliance, AdvaMed, with whom a 2024 memorandum of understanding was signed, and MedTech Europe, where Peter is a Board member. This collaboration with international peers enables advocacy for industry-critical policies, including compliance, sustainability, data and digital.

Peter has 40 years’ experience in sales, marketing and general management in the UK and across Europe and holds non-executive roles with early stage HealthTech companies. He is committed to supporting ABHI's work on important issues such as equality, diversity and inclusion, and health equity, so that the industry is representative of the people it serves.
