UK HealthTech Industrial Councils
Driving Innovation and Growth Through Industry-Government Collaboration
ABHI is proud to support the HealthTech Industrial Council and the Diagnostics Industrial Council, two new strategic initiatives established by CPI to strengthen collaboration between industry and government and accelerate the UK’s leadership in health technology and diagnostics.
These councils bring together executive leaders from across the HealthTech, diagnostics, and life sciences industries to drive innovation, attract investment, and support high-growth potential within the UK’s thriving healthcare ecosystem.
Why These Councils Matter
HealthTech and diagnostics are vital to the health and wealth of the UK. The sectors:
- Contribute £13.5 billion GVA to the UK economy.
- Represent 52% of life sciences employment, with over 4,100 companies.
- Lead globally in R&D, manufacturing, and medical innovation.
Despite these strengths, the sectors receive less investment than other industries of similar scale and impact. The Councils aim to address this gap by fostering closer collaboration with Government and supporting policies that enable sustainable growth, improved patient care, and greater international competitiveness.
Working Together
Convened by CPI, and supported by ABHI and BIVDA, the Industrial Councils provide a platform to:
- Identify shared challenges and opportunities.
- Develop forward-thinking policy recommendations.
- Promote public-private partnerships and investment strategies.
The inaugural Council meetings were held in January 2025, with participation from key government bodies including the Office for Life Sciences, Innovate UK, and the NHS.

As the UK’s leading trade association for HealthTech, ABHI is a founding partner of the HealthTech Industrial Council. We are committed to ensuring the sector’s voice is heard at the highest levels of policymaking and that innovation can flourish across the UK.
