Skin Analytics & Chelsea and Westminster NHS Foundation Trust
Chelsea and Westminster NHS Foundation Trust (CWFT) partnered with Skin Analytics in April 2022 to implement a new skin cancer pathway using DERM, artificial intelligence as a medical device (AIaMD) to build on the efficiency of their already award winning teledermatology service (BMJ Dermatology team of the year, 2020).
This was a collaborative multidisciplinary approach including medical photographers, administrators and dermatologists in order to implement and embed AI technology.
The aim, to increase pathway efficiency whilst maintaining safety and clinical effectiveness, in order to tackle the increasing demands on dermatology services and help direct care to those with the greatest need.
Chelsea & Westminster saw their average wait time from 2ww referral to appointment fall from 14 days to 3 days, they also saw a 10% reduction in biopsies and 83% of patients would recommend the service to friends and family.
Skin Analytics launched the world's first AI skin cancer pathway with University Hospitals Birmingham in April 2020, is now live or launching with 13 NHS organisations and has enabled over 12,000 potential 2ww referrals to be discharged while finding more than 5,300 cancers.
