Roche Diagnostics
The National Pathology Imaging Co-operative (NPIC) was funded by the UK Industry Strategy Challenge Fund, bringing together Industry, Academia and the NHS.
NPIC is based out of the Leeds Teaching Hospitals Trust, a global leader in digital pathology and AI R&D. St James University Hospital being one of the world’s first fully digital pathology labs. Successes at Leeds are being used as a blueprint for deployment in other Trusts.
The aim of this programme was to deploy Digital Pathology into the NHS and develop novel Artificial Intelligence (AI) solutions. Roche deployed DP200 scanners across 6 academic sites (Leeds, Manchester, Sheffield, Nottingham, Newcastle and Liverpool) and collaborated to develop and evaluate AI tools to aid in the diagnosis of cancer.
Using their digital pathology algorithms, Roche’s technology can identify more accurately which metastatic colorectal cancer patients will benefit from anti-EGFR treatment and ultimately reduce costs for the NHS.
