London North West University Healthcare Trust & Ultramed: Digital Platform for Elective Surgery Preparation
Ultramed has provided London North West University Healthcare Trust (LNWH) with a transformational digital platform to support patients as they prepare for elective surgery. The MyPreOp platform has been developed through the innovative work of Dr Paul Upton, an Anaesthetist by training, who capitalised on his expertise to create a product that works for both patients and clinicians. Ultramed has grown from strength to strength over the past six years to become a market leader in this field, culminating in achieving a Kings Award for Enterprise in Innovation this year (2023), the most prestigious business award in the UK.
For LNWH this platform has delivered step wise improvements in service delivery that would never have been achieved within current constraints of staffing and budget, and has meant a 40% increase in clinical capacity within a year of deployment. By facilitating patients to provide their health information in detail prior to surgery it has meant that the clinical team can focus their time on making clinical decisions in a more efficient way. With over 10,000 patients now through the platform the end user feedback has been consistently high, with over 75% of patients rating the use of the platform as “good” or “very good” and over 80% of patients were able to complete it on their own.
The Trust has worked together in partnership with Ultramed through every step of the implementation, and they have been generous with their time, their expertise and their network, linking Ultramed in with other Trusts to discuss challenges and to share success. It has been a true collaboration of health and industry to support patient care in a timely and innovative way.
