ABHI US Accelerator

For eight years, the ABHI US Accelerator programme has been instrumental in helping over 150 UK HealthTech companies successfully enter and expand in the US market. This 12-month national programme is designed to reduce the risks of market entry and accelerate growth in the competitive US healthcare landscape.

Key to the programme's success is its strong partnerships with major US health systems, starting with Dell Medical School at the University of Texas in Austin. These collaborations, now extending across multiple states, provide year-round support from faculty and industry experts, ensuring participants receive tailored guidance and insights.

ABHI’s extensive US health system network, which includes over 70 healthcare systems and thousands of hospitals, gives UK companies unparalleled access to receptive US customers. Additionally, the ABHI US Accelerator connects participants with a broad ecosystem, including payors, investors, professional services, and US Government institutions such as the NIH, FDA, and Medicare-Medicaid Services.

With dozens of US mentors - senior leaders from health systems, clinical practices, and investment firms - the ABHI US Accelerator offers participants the expertise needed to refine and validate their market strategies. The programme also includes a ‘Learning Series’ of virtual events and ‘US Bootcamps’ for hands-on experience in pitching and customer engagement.

A highlight of the programme is the mission trips, which take participants and NHS leaders to key US states four times a year. These visits offer business matching, networking, and deep engagement with the US health ecosystem, connecting participants with industry leaders.

The ABHI US Accelerator also fosters collaboration between UK and US health systems, facilitating partnerships that have led to joint projects and cooperation.

Proven Outcomes

The ABHI US Accelerator has generated significant results, with over $150 million in business won by participating companies. On average, companies expect to generate more than $15 million in business over five years due to their involvement in the programme. Participants have reported winning contracts valued between $250,000 and $60 million.

Satisfaction among participants is high, with 100% recommending the programme and achieving their objectives. The ABHI US Accelerator has also facilitated over 70 clinical trials or pilot studies across 12 US states and supported high-level transatlantic health system engagements.

Several NHS Trusts, including Cambridge University Hospitals and Oxford University Hospitals, have benefited from the programme, leading to advancements in healthcare innovation. The ABHI US Accelerator has also promoted inward investment, bringing over 15 US-based companies to the UK to engage with NHS hospitals.

ABHI’s contributions have earned it honorary memberships in several US healthcare councils and economic development agencies, further solidifying its role as a leader in transatlantic healthcare innovation.

In essence, the ABHI US Accelerator is a comprehensive initiative that drives the growth of UK HealthTech companies in the US, fosters international collaboration, and delivers tangible results on both sides of the Atlantic.
