Life Sciences 2035: Developing the Skills for Future Growth

Topic : News and Press Type : Report

The HealthTech sector, and the wider life sciences industry, are recognised as key drivers of economic growth and integral to building an NHS fit for the future. However, if recent growth trends continue, an additional 70,000 jobs will be needed by 2035 to meet demand, alongside 75,000 replacements for those leaving the workforce. Ensuring a robust skills pipeline will be essential to sustaining this momentum.

To address this challenge, we were pleased to partner with the Science Industry Partnership, Office for Life Sciences, BioIndustry Association, and Association of the British Pharmaceutical Industry to publish the report: Life Sciences 2035: Developing the Skills for Future Growth

Supporting its launch, Science Minister, Lord Vallance, said: "This is a valuable report. By fostering strong partnerships across the UK, we can train and attract top talent to meet the life sciences workforce needs for the future. It is important that we seize this opportunity to make a lasting impact, to grow the UK’s £108 billion life sciences sector."

With the UK Government’s final Industrial Strategy expected soon, this report sets out the foundations for the workforce required to realise the full potential of life sciences as a driver of economic growth and healthcare innovation. If its recommendations are actioned, they will not only strengthen the sector’s skills pipeline but ensure the UK remains a leader in the development and delivery of HealthTech.
