Queen's Speech Proposes New Medicines & Medical Devices Bill
Today, during the State Opening of Parliament, the Queen outlined the proposed legislative programme of her Government. Alongside support for the NHS Long Term Plan and a commitment to patient safety, adult social care and mental health, she noted the desire to table a ‘Medicines and Medical Devices Bill’.
Whilst we await further detail, ABHI welcomes the intent to keep the UK at the forefront of the global life science industry. The suggested forward-looking approach to regulation, and how it can best support medical devices, digital and diagnostic technologies, is also very welcome. Downing Street's official briefing can be found here (with the NHS section starting on p31).
The content of the Speech is now subject to debate over the next week or so, and we will provide a more detailed briefing as appropriate.
