ABHI Update: Government Sector Deal for Wound Care Announced
Following the publication of 2017's Life Science Industrial Strategy, and the "Sector Deals" that followed, the government has today announced its second wave of deals. As part of this, I am pleased to see the inclusion of the wound care sector, a significant step for our industry that paves the way for future HealthTech announcements. Read more.
The deal will help support the use of digital clinical-decision-support tools in reducing variation and improving patient outcomes in wound care. It is an excellent example of how the Health Technology Partnership (HTP), industry’s formal interface with government, has brought together numerous organisations to meet an identified need.
We also welcome the commitment of increased support for NICE to help spread innovation across the system, through a new HealthTech funding requirement: something that ABHI has consistently called for. More information on this will be released shortly.
To increase the profile of our industry in this second wave of deals, ABHI has been working with colleagues from the HTP to formulate the 'framework' for HealthTech’s inclusion. It was using this framework, and through the significant contribution of Members and stakeholders such as the AHSN Network, that the Wound Care Sector Deal has been agreed.
Via the HTP, ABHI is currently working with government to ensure the deal encapsulates a broad range of wound care and digital companies, and we are exploring how this framework can be applied to other areas of our industry in the future. I look forward to updating you on developments.
