About Jose
Dr. Jose Salinas is the chief of the Clinical Decision Support and Automation Research Branch and acting Product Transition Manager at the US Army Institute of Surgical Research, Fort Sam Houston, TX. In his research role, he is currently focusing on development of new clinical decision support technologies and automation solutions to improve outcomes of military combat casualties across all echelons of care. This includes the development of novel information technology and engineering products that provide users with new approaches to communicate and automate different diagnoses and treatments that are normally performed through manual means.
Other projects include research and development efforts that use information technology concepts for enhanced medical situational awareness in the deployed setting. Dr. Salinas also manages multiple research efforts in advanced digital signal processing algorithms for enhanced diagnosis of combat casualties including the use of advanced machine learning techniques for improved physiologic models and prediction of trauma injuries. His current program currently includes over 10 full time intramural researchers working at the institute in addition to multiple extramural efforts with universities, institutions, and medical devices manufacturers. As part of his transition management duties, Dr. Salinas also coordinates multiple research projects as they move into materiel or knowledge products for use in the field. This includes development of plans, schedules, and execution timelines for moving research ideas and efforts into fieldable products for use by military personnel during deployment.
The US Army Institute of Surgical Research
The U.S. Army Institute of Surgical Research is one of six research laboratories within the U.S. Army Medical Research and Materiel Command of the U.S. Army Medicine Command. The Institute is the Army's lead research laboratory for improving the care of combat casualties. The mission of the Institute is to "Optimize Combat Casualty Care".
The USAISR does this through two unique missions:
(1) To provide requirements driven innovations in combat casualty care to advance medical care for injured service members.
(2) As the only Burn Center in the DoD provide state of the art burn, trauma and critical care to injured war fighters and DoD beneficiaries around the world.
