On 2 April, President Donald Trump announced a range of reciprocal tariffs against nearly 200 global trading partners, in what he deemed a declaration of economic independence for the US. This included a baseline 10% tariff on imports and higher tariff rates for dozens of nations that the White House called ‘the worst offenders’ of trade barriers. This is the latest in a series of policy decisions that show how fundamentally our world is changing.
