Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is responsible for 35% of deaths in women each year (*World Heart Foundation) – more than all cancers combined. Yet, CVD in women continues to be seriously understudied, under-recognised, under-diagnosed and under-treated.
This disparity is often driven by misconceptions, including the widespread belief that CVD primarily affects men. A key factor is the persistent under-representation of women in clinical trials, leading to limited awareness, among both female patients and healthcare professionals, of sex-specific symptoms and presentations of CVD.
This panel will explore how we can urgently improve understanding of CVD in women, both among health professionals and the general public.
